Definition for porcelain

Porcelain is unique in the sense that it can be worked as clay, but when fired properly reaches a state similar to glass. Primary qualities of porcelain are translucency and whiteness. The porcelain that I mix is done with the true qualities of porcelain in mind.

Color and light
Color always had a huge influence on my life. While living in South Africa earth tones were brown and beige. In Mississippi where every thing is green in summer and grey in winter, I was very surprised to learn that grey and green are considered earth tones.
Since I started using this new porcelain clay, it is as if there is a color explosion in my world. This new approach is like planting flowers everywhere. The outcome makes me happy and the bonus of translucency of the Southern Ice porcelain adds another cheerful dimension to the work.

Southern Ice is imported from
Australia.  Although my previous porcelain clay that I mixed myself was translucent when fired to a high temperature, this clay is extremely generous in reflecting light. It is pure pleasure to hold a colored porcelain bowl against the light and see how it glows. The whiteness of the clay helps to show color at its best.
In the afternoons when I watch the sun sets behind my showroom, there is tranquility in the air. When the wind is blowing softly, the trees throw their playful shadows through the pots.
Although Southern Ice is tedious to work with, the rewards that these treasures from my kiln offer in the final product is worth the effort. It is my biggest joy to use the combination of my creativity and skill along with this clay to offer to anyone that is interested.
